My Cousin in Glamour Magazine
Taking a departure from all things academics (well sort of), my cousin, Jasmeet Sidhu, called me yesterday to let me know that she is in the upcoming Glamour magazine. For those that keep up with this magazine, it has Gwen Stefani on the cover. Here’s the cover:

Every year, Glamour’s Top 10 college women competition honors leaders in every field (Martha Stewart won in 1961). My cousin, who is a journalist, was one of the ten recipients for this year.
To say the least, she is an active member in her community, which is no suprise to me since she is very active in any type of family reunion! In a field that is quite different than mine, she has been to many regions of the world to write about the atrocities that happen in everday life. For example, she recently returned from Africa, where she was documenting HIV/AIDS. She also is a strong advocate for women’s rights in various cultures where women are deemed inferior. Currently, she writes opinion columns for the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest newspaper. Aside from this current award, her work has resulted in being the past recipient of the Top 20 Under 20 award, and in 2008 was named by the Globe and Mail and the Women’s Executive Network as one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women. Of course, this isn’t her permanent job as she is now a junior at the University of Toronoto. At any rate, here’s a photo I took of her in the magazine, and if its hard to read, here’s a link featuring her as well as the other top 10 college women honored by Glamour Magaizine.

If you are interested in her work, I suggest you check out her blog here. Keep up the good work Jasmeet!
